When I started my master’s degree in Public Relations and Global Communications Management at Cardiff University back in September 2019, I had never imagined the year ahead of me and the obstacles that I’d be facing. Much like thousands of other students and graduates across the UK, handing in your dissertation and facing the world of work is an intimidating thing in its own right, let alone during a global pandemic.
I had heard of Petersen's PR firm during my time in university, as it has an excellent long-standing reputation in the region and is well recognised by my academic tutors and peers. So, when I saw the PR and social media internship vacancy, it really did stand out from the rest.
I’m extremely honoured to have been given the position here, as I’ve learnt a great deal about the PR and communications industry. Straight away, I was given responsibilities to manage the social media channels of multiple clients using platforms such as Sprout Social and Buffer. Already within my first few weeks, I’ve created social media content on Canva, written press releases, managed Petersen’s own channels, contacted journalists, attended prospective client meetings, written topical blogs, and drank lots of coffee!
It’s great to work with such an experienced team of people who are incredibly welcoming and eager to show me the ropes. Despite being only 3 weeks into my 12-week internship, I already know that my knowledge and experience is growing, and my skills are developing.
This opportunity has allowed me valuable experience in a very competitive but highly rewarding global industry, so I’m incredibly grateful to be here and taking another step towards my future career in PR and communications.
Thank you Petersens!
