On Friday 2 September 2016, 300 leading figures in the Welsh house building industry gathered at NHBC’s 39th Pride in the Job Regional Awards ceremony in Cardiff City Hall.
The awards organised by NHBC, the UK’s leading warranty and insurance provider for new homes, are the most highly regarded in the house-building industry. They recognise and reward a site manager’s dedication to achieving the highest standards in house building, and their commitment to building homes of outstanding quality.
Site managers are automatically entered into the competition if they are working on a site registered for NHBC warranty. The competition is free and the winners, decided by a panel of expert judges making site visits, showed impressive dedication to achieving the highest quality on their sites.
John Popple from Barratt and David Wilson Homes South Wales was named Large Builder category winner for the Waterside development, Barry. John, who coaches a women’s rugby union team has worked in the industry for over 30 years and won his first Pride in the Job Award in 2006!
• Dale Dickenson from Llanmoor Development Co Limited, won the Medium Builder category for the Eglwys Nunnydd development in Port Talbot. Dale, who is a keen cyclist and golfer, started his construction career as a labourer and gradually worked his way up into more senior positions. This is his fifth Pride in the Job Regional Award in as many years.
• John Greggain from South Meadow Homes Ltd was crowned the Small Builder category winner for Beaconing Fields, Milford Haven. He started his career in the Royal Marines, then joined the construction industry and has worked as a site manager for over 20 years. John won the Supreme Award for this category in 2016 and 2017 and this year the fourth generation of this family business has entered the industry.
